A leading Japanese automobile manufacturing conglomerate approached Xtract.io with a crucial need to create accurate parking lot polygons. Within three months, the client expected to create polygons for the POI data across various categories like education, food, nature, shopping, etc. They required precise polygon data to analyze vehicle stays at multiple Points of Interest (POI) across the country to gain insights into parking patterns and the duration of vehicle stays.
Our experts at Xtract.io efficiently handled the challenges encountered while working with the provided dataset. To begin with, the coordinates shared in the input file were in the native language. Therefore, finding the exact location of points of interest (POI) and verifying the POI location from an aerial view using online maps was challenging as the signboards were also in Japanese. Additionally, the satellite imagery in QGIS could have been more precise for the region, and for a few places, the street view was unavailable to confirm the POI location.
Overall, the POI and limited street view data made mapping boundaries difficult. We mostly had to work with the latitude and longitude coordinates, making polygon creation time-consuming. However, we overcame the data incompleteness issue through thorough research and validation to ensure accuracy in polygons.
The project was time-sensitive as the client required 720,000 data points to get delivered within three months.
Despite facing these challenges, Xtract.io proactively employed a range of innovative solutions, leveraging the expertise of our in-house technical team. This approach enabled us to address the complexities involved and guarantee successful project outcomes effectively.
We consistently connected with the client regarding the roadblocks and the project's progress. Our engagement and communication aided in clarifying issues, leading to desired revisions and changes.
Due to inadequate satellite images and language limitations, we used aerial views from online maps to draw accurate polygons. When the location names were unavailable, we mapped with latitude and longitude data. For properties requiring multiple polygons, we meticulously inserted rows for each polygon coordinate. Similarly, we captured the entire property polygon if the POI was located within an indoor or strip mall because classifying parking spaces separately was not feasible.
After generating the polygons, our QA assurance team carefully examined them for quality. The review resulted in an impressive accuracy rate of 98%, exceeding both industry standards and our customer's expectations.
Xtract.io successfully delivered 716,877 polygons, surpassing the initial input of 676,372 POIs, within the stipulated 45-day timeframe. The detailed and accurate polygon data provided comprehensive insights into vehicle stays at various POIs across Japan.
Thus, we enabled the automobile company to make informed decisions, optimize parking facilities, and enhance operational efficiency. The project's success underscored Xtract.io's commitment to delivering tailored solutions that meet and exceed client expectations, even in the face of complex challenges and tight deadlines.
